Founded in May 2018, spotLESS Materials provides state-of-the-art solutions to address sticky problems common across various industries by developing and commercializing a liquid- and sludge-repellent bio-inspired self-healing surface coating. Known as a liquid-entrenched smooth surface (LESS), this technology addresses commercial needs related to fouling, icing, self-cleaning, and more.

Key to the spotLESS coatings is the use of liquid-infused nano-brush technology, which forms a molecular-smooth, ultra-slippery layer that can repel sludge, liquid, mineral deposits and more. It has been demonstrated that our spotLESS coating technology is the best-in-class in repelling sludge-like substances as compared to other state-of-the-art hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings [1].
